THE THIRD WAVE - a Volunteer Story
"The Third Wave is truly a Must See! For ourselves, our children and for anyone who has two good legs and a dollar in their pocket. It inspires the very best in us, just when we need that most, and comes as close to answering our purpose in life more than any other film I have seen in my recent memory.” Sean Penn.
“It’s a wonderful film with exactly the right message.” Tom Brokaw
“I hope the four of you don’t start a band” Bono.
Synopsis
After the 2004 Asian tsunami disaster, four independent volunteers race off to
Sri Lanka. They set up a first aid station at Peraliya, a tribal village devastated by 40 foot waves with more than 2500 people dead. With little experience, and a small van of supplies, they quickly find themselves running a refugee camp for over 3000 people.
The world’s donated tsunami aid never materializes for Peraliya and a two week journey spirals into a year long odyssey of hope, heartbreak and setbacks. The volunteers break every rule in the “Disaster Aid Books” and out of the rubble an entire village is born.
The Third Wave is a roadmap for volunteering. In a world of increasing natural and man made disasters: EVERYONE IS NEEDED. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
